  for Mutual Growth
DESCRIPTION:The GHA – German Health Alliance (GHA) and Afrika Verein der
deutschen Wirtschaft invite to a roundtable discussion on 2 July 2026\, ena
bling an exchange with the Egyptian Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) on
market access opportunities and localization strategies for MedTech and hea
lthcare products in Egypt as a hub for Africa.\nAs a follow‑up to our del
egation visit to Egypt in June 2025 and the subsequent return visit of H.E.
the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health in October 2025\, this ro
undtable aims to continue and deepen the exchange.\nBackground\nEgypt’s h

reforms and increased investment. Imports of medical technology are estimat

s strongly on gradual localization to achieve economic self‑sufficiency.\
nThe recently signed African Pooled Procurement Mechanism (APPM)\, led by t
he Africa CDC and endorsed by the African Union (AU)\, creates a more unifi
ed and predictable market. It aims to strengthen purchasing power\, reduce
procurement fragmentation\, and enable more equitable access to medicines\,
vaccines\, diagnostics and medical technologies\, with the ambition to loc
ally produce 60% of Africa’s health products by 2040.\nThe Egyptian Unif
ied Procurement Authority (UPA) acts as a centralized procurement and supp
ly interface for all public procurement of MedTech and pharmaceuticals in E
gypt and plays a key role in advancing this initiative as a pivotal regiona
l partner in operationalising the APPM.\nRoundtable Discussion\nWithin the
roundtable\, an open discussion will address the following development stra
tegies aiming to support mutual economic interests and sustainable trade an
d manufacturing cooperation:\n\nAfrican export orientation strategies under
  APPM\, COMESA and AfCFTA\nFirst‑phase and continuous off‑take / distri
bution agreements with UPA\nFinancial incentive schemes\, including EU / Me
dTech tax‑free zones\, usufruct models\, investment support and guarantee
s by international funds\nFacilitating EDA / MDR compatibility and brand &
technology recognition\n\nThe agenda is available for download via this lin
